  7.     Senators can run, but they can't hide from Martha Pope.
  8. Taking over last week as the first female sergeant at arms of
  9. the U.S. Senate, Pope, 45, has the power of arrest to aid her
  10. in rounding up absent members -- wherever they may be -- and
  11. bringing them to the floor for a vote. She also manages a $120
  12. million budget, heads the board overseeing the 1,300-strong
  13. Capitol Police Force and is responsible for enforcing rules and
  14. maintaining decorum in the Senate. Jokes Pope, whose first job
  15. on the Hill was as receptionist for ex-Senator Gary Hart: "I
  16. started out answering phones, and it may still be my only
  17. marketable skill."
